En 1950, esta Vespa rodó durante 10 horas seguidas y consiguió 17 récords del mundo en el circuito de Montlhery.

¿Es fea? Supongo que en 1950 sería, más bien, de diseño futurista.

Why "Vespa"?

Gracias a Tecnoauto encontré esta imágen para explicar el porqué del nombre. Resulta que en italiano vespa es avispa. Según la web oficial de Vespa el nombre nace así:

Recibió su nombre del propio Enrico Piaggio, quien, mirando el prototipo de la MP 6, con su ancha parte central en la que se sentaba el conductor, y su estrecho frontal, exclamó: “¡parece una avispa!”. Y así nació la Vespa.

Thanks to Tecnoauto I could find this self explanatory image of why naming Vespa the Vespa. If you want to say wasp in italian you should say vespa.
According to Vespa's official web the name's born like this:

It got its name from Enrico Piaggio himself who, looking at the MP 6 prototype with its wide central part where the rider sat and the narrow “waist”, exclaimed, “It looks like a wasp!” And so the Vespa was born.

Bueno, si yo hubiese tenido esto de pequeño no me hubiera bajado de ella hasta los 20 años. Me parece de las mejores maneras de reciclar una Vespa. En Make: en Español dicen que está hecha por un abuelo para su nieto con una Vespa vieja. Menudo regalazo.

Well, if I ever had one of this when I was a kid, I wouldn't jump off until I turned 20. It's one of the best ways to recycle a Vespa. At Make: en Español, they assure it was built by a grandfather to his grandson. What a gift!

¿Cerveza o Coca-Cola?

Hay que ser valiente para pintar una Vespa con los logos de Coca-Cola y Mahou. Personalmente me parece un poco hortera, pero para gustos los colores... Salvo que sean motos publicitarias, que nunca se sabe.

I don't really like Vespas being painted with either Coke or Mahou (Spanish beer) logos. Personally, I think it's tacky. But there's so many tastes for everything, that you never know... Unless they're painted as Ad-bikes.

Dando un paseo por Flickr, he encontrado con esta preciosa foto de dos Vespas "enamoradas". Eso pensó Justimage cuando las retrató. Fíjate que manera de mirarse. Parecen estar coqueteando. Me imagino a la roja pensando "Qué bien te sienta ese retrovisor, so guapa."

Surfing thru Flickr, I found this beautiful photo of two Vespas "in love". That's what Justimage thought when she pictured them. Just note the way they look at each other. It seems they're flirting. I imagine the red one thinking "How good does that mirror fit on you, pretty!"

Fósil

En homenaje a mi primer vehículo a motor... os presento a la Vespino GL. Mítica donde las haya.
Yo me hice con una de color granate en los años 80. Mis amigos ya tenían modelos nuevos, de los de plástico. Así que apodaron a mi GL con el nombre de FOSIL. Ya que Vespino y Vespa son primos hermanos... he aquí un recuerdo a mi querido Fósil.

In memory of my first motor vehicle... I would like to present the Vespino GL. Mytic motorcycle. I got a maroon one in the 80s. My friends already had the newest plastic models, so they decided to name mine as the FOSIL (fossil). Since vespino and Vespa are very close family... here's my thought for my beloved Fósil.

En Motorfull he encontrado esta maravilla que recuerda a las antiguas diligencias del oeste. Nos lleva la Vespa en lugar de los caballos. En la parte de trasera pondríamos a la mujer del alcalde a la que llevaríamos sana y salva hasta la ciudad, donde iría a comprarse algo de ropa.
Vespacar se fabricó en España en los años 60, muchas de ellas entregadas al servicio de Correos y Telecomunicaciones.
